I guess there's still some vestiges of when Facebook was exclusively for elite colleges.

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

Nick, The fb chat app is already available on the Brown network for a few days now. (But can only chat with friends within the network who already have the app.)

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

Great news. Our team also launched an sexy desktop application for Facebook named VisualSage - for Facebook. Users can chat, manage and play with all friends. But different from traditional IM software, VisualSage can display all your friends in a network style. That's very cool.

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

I think this definitely could be a game changer but they need to make the desktop version of the chat. You can already chat with your facebook friends via digsby (see digsby.com). It will be interesting to see if Facebook decides to launch something similar to Gtalk.

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

I agree with Eric. this could be a game changer for them and take a lot of traffic away from Twitter and Pownce. How do you think those microblogging sites will be impacted, Nick?

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

This will be awesome, because although all my friends are spread over several IM systems like MSN, AIM etc.. they are all at Facebook!

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

My prediction Nick is that Chat will be a game changer for sure for Facebook. There are third party apps - yes - but direct integration within Facebook will be massive.

This will be huge!

There will be those that try and hide from friends - and some who do not want to be bombarded when online. Conversation awareness will be a big issue - chatting with more that one friend and productivity will take a nosedive. However once that dies down - FB will become a destination and staying logged in and on the site will be commonplace.

This will be cool to see how it all plays out.

Cheers - Eric

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

can't we connect it? after all, it's jabber.
isn't it?

Re: Facebook Chat Launches This Week

This is great. I hope it will be possible to use in connection with Facebook pages. I would also like a Facebook chat application, but if the goal is to keep the users on the site, I would not bet on this coming anytime soon....
