AllFacebook: Facebook Launching Privacy Controls and Instant Messaging

Jeremy Herbel · 1 year agoDevelopers all knew this was a possibility. Facebook hasn't really done anything to prevent third-parties from creating some nice applications, and clearly there are a lot of them. If a third-party developer can create a truly better chat service, then they can probably keep themselves alive. They don't have to have every member of Facebook using their service to succeed. While many people will simply opt to use Facebook's own chat, there will still be many that prefer to use the other ones. Also, like I said, they shouldn't be too upset because they knew this could happen. Facebook made it no secret that they might create their own apps that compete with third-party ones.
