Facebook: Minimize Application Requests!

Started by Nick O'Neill · 10 months ago

One of my co-authors, Rory Marinich, pointed out to me a serious problem on Facebook. There is an overload of application requests showing up on my homepage sidebar. It would be much easier for Facebook to minimize all all of these requests into one thing that says “25 application re ... Continue reading »

  • I have yet to see so many applications requests at the same time. Maybe the problem is that you're too backlogged in responding to them? This has never been a problem for me. But than, I don't have 48 pending friends requests either...
  • I've been screaming about this for a while now, as my home page looks almost like yours. Facebook needs to allow users to turn off application requests. It doesn't just feel like spam, it is spam. I've even talked to some of my friends who tell me they aren't even sending the app request and they swear they have no idea how I ended up with a request from them. If I get bitten by a vampire or asked what my favorite alcoholic drink is one more time....

This is a problem that Facebook could easily fix and one they would have done quickly in the past before they got so distracted with many of the "features" they're trying to roll out in the future.
  • If there is anything that will make me give up entirely on Facebook it is application spam. They definitely need a feature allowing you to block all such requests.
  • Wow, I had created something that would do this a couple weeks ago, but I never knew anyone would want this. You guys can use this until facebook does something to do this permanently.

You need FIREFOX and GREASEMONKEY. Then just click the following link: http://karbassi.com/scripts/greasemonkey/minimu...

Here is what it will look like when it's installed and running:

Easy as that. Email me if you have comments/suggestions.
  • There IS a way to turn off app requests... go to the notifications page (click on the down arrow next to "Inbox" & select "Notifications"), then check/uncheck the apps you want/don't want notices from. Easy as pie! ;)

    Cheers,
    Mari
  • Mari,

If only that were true. I've 'unchecked' many things like this and yet I still get daily requests for things I have no interest in and can't seem to turn them off.

Thanks for the greasemonkey script Ali, I'll be giving that a try!
